The National Bloc says the Lebanese must choose between two ways of life
The National Bloc Party’s Executive Committee released a statement after its meeting chaired by Carlos Eddé saying that it saw two important implications in convening an Arab summit in the absence of a Lebanese president: the preservation of the presidency and Lebanon’s presence at the summit.
“The president represents the government, which collectively assigns a minister to head the Lebanese delegation,” the Executive Committee said, adding that it was crucial to point out that the presidential vacancy in Lebanon was due to external interference in internal Lebanese affairs.
“That way, Lebanon can be present at all summits, and the whole world will know that the situation is abnormal in the absence of an elected president.”
The bloc’s statement added that the March 14 forces expected the upcoming “Spring of Lebanon 2008” conference to be “the best proof” of the forces’ strong support for the nation and the people of Lebanon.
“The conference aims at dialogue and openness,” the statement added, “and at proposing projects and the right to dream of a better future.
“The Lebanese must choose between such a project and the March 8 project, which consists of endless sit-ins, burning tires, cutting off roads, and open wars in which bloodshed knows no end.”
The National Bloc Party concluded by saying the Lebanese had to make a choice between two different ways of life.
