National Liberal Party hails Kuwait summit
The
National Liberal Party (NLP) said the statement on Lebanon issued
following the informal "Friends of Lebanon" meeting held in Kuwait
earlier this week, constituted an accurate diagnosis of the problems in
Lebanon. The gathering convened at the sidelines of a meeting of Iraq's
neighboring countries and other international powerhouses in Kuwait.
The
NLP renewed its call for the election of the commander of the Lebanese
Armed Forces, General Michel Suleiman, as a compromise president
without preconditions, the formation of a national unity government and
the holding of parliamentary elections under an electoral law approved
by all parties, pursuant to the Arab initiative.
After
a weekly meeting chaired by party leader Dory Chamoun, the NPL also
warned the Lebanese of the seriousness of the recent incident in which
gunmen interefered with the work peacekeepers from the United Nations
Interim Force in Lebanon.
