MP Franjieh urges Hezbollah and Amal to return to Lebanon
MP
Samir Franjieh called on Hezbollah and Amal to return to Lebanon and to
Lebanese concessions, which he summarized as the Taif Agreement, the
Lebanese Constitution, and Arab and international resolutions.
“These are sufficient to resolve all contentious issues among the Lebanese,” he added.
After
visiting Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butrous Sfeir, accompanied by
March 14 coordinator and former MP Fares Soueid, Franjeih said that the
March 14 forces rejected Speaker Nabih Berri’s dialogue initiative
“because what they demand is unspecified.”
“First
of all, dialogue in the past did not result in the application of any
decisions, and secondly, the return to old controversies is no longer
useful,” Franjieh explained.
He
also said the problem was not among the Lebanese, but between Lebanon
and Syria, and therefore all parties which carried out Syrian policies
in Lebanon should “stop sacrificing this country in defense of the
interests of the regime.”
Franjieh
said the March 14 alliance saw MP Michel Al-Murr’s press conference on
Wednesday as an indicator of “messiness” within the ranks of the
opposition. “It is heresy to say that they would not elect President of
the Republic before agreeing on an electoral law,” he added.
Franjieh
said Murr’s recent position revealed a "positive attitude” and hoped it
would encourage other members in the Change and Reform take the steps
they find appropriate.
