Qabbani Rejects Berri-Sponsored Dialogue
MP Mohammed Qabbani said Thursday any dialogue between the nation's political leaders would not result in a settlement to the ongoing political crisis if not sponsored by an elected president.
Qabbani, a member of Saad Hariri's Mustaqbal Parliamentary bloc, said in a statement dialogue should be carried out "within constitutional institutions … and by parliament members."
As for dialogue among the nation's leaders who are not members of Parliament, "it should be sponsored by the president," Qabbani added.
That was an apparent rejection of a declared attempt by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to sponsor national dialogue, grouping leaders of the various political factions involved in the ongoing crisis.
