MP Habib: Let Syria recognize Lebanon first

MP Farid Habib said Syria must recognize Lebanon as an independent and sovereign state first and foremost, and before the summit is held in Damascus. Then Lebanon will decide whether to accept the invitation or not.

MP Habib who represents the Koura district of North Lebanon is a member of the Lebanese Forces bloc headed by Samir Geagea, who is currently on an official visit to the US.

Habib confirmed that Geagea wants Lebanon to boycott the summit unless Syria recognizes Lebanon as an independent and sovereign state.

Habib told Kuwait News Agency: "Lebanon is a founding member of the Arab League since its creation in 1945."
Habib said that he expects the cabinet decision will call for boycotting the summit.

When asked about the presidential elections Habib said: "As far as we see there are no indications that the presidential elections will take neither take place on March 25 nor after March 25."

Habib held the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah-led opposition responsible for the vote delay.

Asked about the proposal to send a delegation of the majority and the opposition to Damascus, he said: "This is not a proposition worth consideration, since it weakens Lebanon further and subjects it to more blackmail and extortion."

Asked about the effort by the Arab MPs who are currently visiting Lebanon to resolve the crises he said : "I want to thank MP Jassim Mohammed Sakr and the delegation accompanying him for visiting Lebanon and I want to wish them all the success in ending the crises." He stressed the importance of their visit and support for the Arab initiative.
